Augsburg College

Untitled Document

Located on the campus of Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn., the Augsburg College Dome consists of a fully inflated bubble that covers a 120yd x 65yd playing surface. The facility boasts four batting cages, driving range net, and four full size soccer goals.

A new state-of-the-art bubble was installed in the fall of 2006 with hanging lights, creating a more spacious and well-lit facility.

In the summer of 2004, the college installed Sprinturf, a "next-generation" surface. The playing surface looks, feels and plays like natural grass, but it is safer and far more durable than older-style artificial-turf surfaces. The infill features a mix of rubber and sand to give the field a natural feel. More than 150 fields throughout North America have Sprinturf surfaces.

The dome and the artificial-turf surface make Edor Nelson Field a valuable asset for the college. The facility is used constantly, not only by Augsburg athletic teams, but also by numerous community groups, such as intramural teams, walkers and indoor soccer leagues in the winter months, golfers who use the domed field as an indoor driving range, track and field athletes, baseball and softball players in the early spring, and amateur and semi-pro football and soccer teams in the summer.
