Water Fountain Pumps
![]() |
I want to make a wind powered water fountain in the courtyard. I found a submersible pump that uses 2.16 kW.?
a month. Could someone do the math for me as to what size motor / generator would need to feed the pump?
Your units do not make sense (which may be the fault of the advertisers, not yours, of course). KW and a power unit. 2.16 kW to drive a pump that needs a 2.16kW motor (or a little bigger, like 2.5 or 3 kW). If you are trying to tell you the cost of operating the pump on the power grid, the units must kilowatt-hours per month. But that is the number of sense unless you know how many hours a month in which they will operate the pump 2.16 kW-h per month is only 3 watts, if the pump was in operation 24 hours a day for 30 days, but 3 watts is too small for a power source outside. It is best to start at the end and work backwards. First decide what size font you want (How high, how many planes, etc), then go to a water supplier, the features and find out what size pump you need to drive.
